  • essentials.86box.nethttps contains boot disks and drivers for some of the hardware peripherals emulated using 86Box.
    • Boot disks for MS-DOS 6.00, Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.5
    • Audio drivers for SoundBlaster 16 (DOS x Windows 3.1x) and SoundBlaster PCI ES1371 (Windows 9x).
    • Display drivers for e.g. Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM (S3 Vision964) for Windows 3.1, and 3DFX Voodoo3 drivers for Windows 9x.

This is a curated selection of hardware drivers known to work in the 86Box emulator when the matching hardware peripherals are selected in your machine’s configuration.

These are also actual hardware drivers so if you have a physical machine with these components in it, these drivers should work for it as well.

This is a curated selection of hardware drivers known to work in the 86Box emulator when the matching hardware peripherals are selected in your machine’s configuration.

These are also actual hardware drivers so if you have a physical machine with these components in it, these drivers should work for it as well.

  • Graphics Accelerator: 3DFX Voodoo3 3000 (zip of CD-ROM contents, 410.9 MiB)

    This installs the Voodoo3 driver. It seems to be a ZIP based on a CD-ROM image, with autorun.exe inside. With 86Box you can mount a folder as a CD-ROM for easily accessing this installer in Windows 98.

System Tools

  • KernelEx v4.5.2 (setup .exe, 223.1 KiB)

    KernelEx is an Open Source compatibility layer with an aim to allow running Windows 2000/XP-only applications on Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows Millennium operating systems.

    Needed for running Firefox >2.0 on Windows 98.

  • .MSI Installer Support (setup .exe, 1.4 MiB)

    Adds support for running .msi installers on Windows 98.

  • DirectX 9.0 (redist setup .exe, 59.2 MiB)

    The latest version of DirectX for Windows 98 gaming.

  • UNICOWS (setup .exe, 260.3 KiB)

    Microsoft Layer for Unicode on Windows 95, 98, and Me systems, 1.1.3790.0 (copy files to C:\Windows\System folder - don’t need to register DLL).
